Frequently Asked Questions About Homemade Pizza Roll-Ups
Can I make my own pizza dough using a bread machine?
Yes! This is actually my favorite way to make bread dough. I first posted how to do this in my easy recipe for Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls. Check out that recipe as well.
To make your own dough using the bread maker, you’ll layer 1/2 cup tap water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 225 g (about 1 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons lightly spooned and level scraped) all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon active dry yeast in your bread machine. Start “dough setting”. (Be sure you’re on the “dough” cycle so that it doesn’t proceed onto the baking cycle.) When dough is ready (has proofed [first rise] once in the bread machine), remove from bread machine pan, and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Proceed with the recipe below.
What bread maker do you use to make your pizza dough?
I upgraded to this T-fal Bread Maker a few years ago, but it appears to be out of stock on Amazon. If you’re considering purchasing a bread maker, the main function I would look for is a “dough” setting. Here is a Cuisinart Bread Maker that would be a good choice.

Can I make these pepperoni pizza rolls in the air fryer?
A lot of this will depend on the size of your air fryer whether or not you can simply bake as directed below in a square pan or dish. My air fryer is more like a small oven, so I can cook these in one batch. I do turn the temperature down by 25 degrees F and check for doneness 5 minutes early. If you have a smaller air fryer, I recommend cooking in batches and avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket.

Quick And Easy Pizza Roll Ups
- Total Time: 50 minutes
- Yield: 9 roll ups
Ingredients
- Nonstick spray
- All-purpose flour
- 1 lb. refrigerated or homemade pizza dough or 1 lb. frozen bread dough, thawed to room temperature
- 2 Tablespoons garlic-and-herb butter spread (such as Land O’Lakes), melted
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning or pizza seasoning
- 4 oz. torn mozzarella pieces
- about 18 slices of pepperoni or favorite pizza toppings
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Marinara sauce, pasta sauce or favorite pizza sauce
Instructions
- Coat a square baking dish or large baking sheet with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
- Place pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll out to form a 12- x 9-inch large rectangle, sprinkling with a little flour, as needed, to avoid sticking to rolling pin.
- Brush melted butter evenly over dough and sprinkle evenly with Italian seasoning. Arrange mozzarella and pepperoni evenly over dough. Gently roll up dough, jelly-roll fashion, starting with a long edge. Pinch seam to seal, and place dough, seem side down on cutting board. Cut dough into 9 (1-inch) slices using a piece of unflavored dental floss or a serrated sharp knife. Place rolls, cut sides up, in prepared dish. Cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place 20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Uncover and bake until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan, and serve with marinara. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
