Let’s be honest. Sweet quick bread recipes like banana bread are already an easy way to stir up something delicious without a lot of hard work or very many minutes of hands-on time. But this delicious bread is EVEN easier! You basically let your bread machine do all the mixing and baking. Bread machine models can vary quite a bite in terms of their different settings. So I’ve developed and written this recipe for most any bread machine, no quick bread setting required. When you have extra bananas ready to bake, there’s no need to pull out your mixer or heat up your oven for your next loaf of homemade banana bread!

Can I substitute bread flour or whole wheat flour for the all-purpose?

Maybe, but I can’t promise that it will turn out as moist and tender.

My bread machine has 3 different crust settings. Is there a specific setting I should choose?

I baked mine on the medium crust settings. 

Can I bake traditional banana bread with less sugar?

If you want to reduce the total sugar in this recipe, for best results, I would suggest using a low- or no-calorie sweetener (meant for baking) in place of some of the sugar, rather than simply cutting down on the total amount.

Sugar and low- or no-calorie sweetners that are specifically meant for baking play a critical role in providing moisture and structure in baked goods. Simply “taking out” some sugar will given an end result that is a drier bread.

I’m a big fan of baking with a 1:1 combo of sugar and low- or no-calorie sugar substitutes. This combo is a great way to preserve the taste, while reducing the total amount of sugar for people on a reduced calorie diet.

Best Banana Bread Recipe For Bread Machine

  • Yield: 8 servings


  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 overripe bananas (should have lots of black spots), peeled and mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (about 240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch of salt


  1. Place all ingredients in pan of bread machine in the order of the ingredients as listed above.

  2. Select Dough setting; press Start. Mix dough until well combined, 3 to 5 minutes, occasionally using a rubber spatula to push dough from the sides of the bread pan, as needed. Press Stop, and smooth out top of the batter with the back of a spoon or offset spatula, as needed. (If there is batter up the sides of bread machine, I recommend using a wet rubber spatula to push that down before beginning the baking process.)

  3. Select Bake setting; press Start. Bake in bread machine until a wooden pick inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour.

  4. Use oven mitts to carefully remove pan from bread machine, and let bread cool in pan 5-10 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack, and let cool 30 to 45 minutes. (Be sure to check for dough mixing blade or mixing paddle in bottom of loaf and remove carefully.) Serve warm. Store in a plastic bag or airtight container.
